Who We Are

Born and raised on a wheat farm outside Culver, Kansas, River Hills Seed owner Sheldon Daugherty has deep roots in farming and agriculture. At a young age, he developed a passion for all things ag, which led to a career in agribusiness. Sheldon is a longtime resident of Minneapolis and Ottawa County.

Sheldon began selling Pioneer® brand products in 1996 and in 2001 Sheldon and his wife Tania acquired the Pioneer dealership and started River Hills Seed. Backed by many years of experience in the area and a relentless commitment to local farmers, Sheldon has led River Hills Seed to more than 20 years of success and several accolades, including multiple Executive Club, PaceSetters Club, and Agency of the Year awards.

From seed sales, crop protection sales, and fertilizer, custom application, and crop consulting to feed mills and grain elevators, Sheldon has experience in just about everything. But the most important thing to know about him is his dedication to customer service.

“Our motto at River Hills Seed is, ‘It’s What We Do!,’” says Sheldon. “No request is too big or too small. Because we’re here to help, to put the farmer first.”

Sheldon and his team of dedicated employees view the farmers and growers they serve as neighbors and friends. A longtime resident of Minneapolis, Sheldon makes sure River Hills Seed is active in the community, whether it's donating time and effort to the Ottawa County fair or helping out in whatever way possible to local community efforts and organizations.  Sheldon, Tania and the River Hills Seed team believe in helping out the communities that have helped us grow.

“Working with our farmers and growers daily is what I enjoy most about my job,” says Sheldon. “We’re here to get them going and keep them going — whether that’s through a hectic time of year or a less busy time. I love getting to help them find solutions to their daily needs.”
